Plans for the Sacramento State satellite campus at Placer Ranch are moving steadily forward. According to Sacramento State President Alexander Gonzalez, the university is following the lead of other California State University (CSU) campuses that have been developed over the past few years. And he would know – Gonzalez came to Sac State from Cal State San Marcos after overseeing a period of rapid growth on that campus, including its transition from a satellite campus to a CSU. He is leading a major shift in Sac State’s evolution and opening the Placer campus is part of that progression.
“We are committed to the Placer Ranch campus and to bringing additional educational, economic and cultural opportunities to Placer County residents,” said President Gonzalez. “We aim to not only provide accessible and affordable education programs but also benefit the area by bringing additional cultural events and economic benefits. Sacramento State has positively impacted Sacramento by providing $750 million in economic benefits, and we feel a similar impact can be made in Placer County.”
The new campus will benefit the many Sac State alumni living in Placer County by offering another link to their alma mater and building closer ties with the local communities.
“Planning for a new campus involves tracking changes in demographics and population movement, as well as predicting future higher education needs in different areas of the state,” said Gonzalez. “The Placer campus was envisioned in 2003 based on the growth of Placer County and the number of Sac State students living there, as well as future population growth and the expanding student body at Sac State’s campus.”
